36 years of Heavy Equipment, Landscape & Construction Machinery Maintenance Tips and Tricks

Stan: All right guys. Today, it's all about our favorite part of owning equipment. Running it? No. Who wants to run it and smash down buildings and have fun playing in the snow? Everybody likes to grease it and maintain it of course. Today, we're going to punch 30 some odd years of maintenance into this video and give you all the best tips and tricks, so that maintenance doesn't have to be such a chore because if you're anything like me, I honestly would rather be driving a piece of equipment than maintaining it, but maintaining it is what keeps the money rolling in instead of your piece of equipment going to the repair shop.

Stan: So, I'm going to share with you all of the best things that I've learned that my father taught me and that my guys along the way have picked up from other people inside the industry. What are you waiting for? Let's go maintain some equipment. Yee Ha.

Stan: All right guys, it's 40 degrees in Minnesota and it finally feels like mother nature's not...

The fastest Snow plow ever made -16′ Monster back plow Finishes a driveway in seconds Bat Wing Plow

Stan Genadek: Just plowed a driveway out in under 20 seconds.

Stan Genadek: I thought I knew all about snowplowing 'cause I've done it for 30 years, until I went to Michigan into this one area where they get lake-effect snow, 100 plus inches per year. Now I've gone out snowplowing a total so far this year of nine times. These guys have gone out 48 times. This is like snowplowing 2.0.

Stan Genadek: Their equipment is next level. They've got the be able to move massive quantities of snow as fast as possible, and what I found when I went to Michigan was they're kind of on a different playing field than we are over in Minnesota.

Stan Genadek: I made it. This is the home of Short Iron Fabrication. I love shops like this. This is my kind of people right here.

Stan Genadek: There's the man. There's Jason. How you doing, Jay?

Jason: Good. How are you?

Stan Genadek: I'm good. I'm good. So, this is the little 12-footer you're working on.

Jason: Twelve footer. Kind of an entry-level blade.

Toro Grandstand Review - Mowing a Steep Slope

Stan: All right, we're in Saint Paul, Minnesota and we're going to be doing a product review, the Toro 52" Grandstand Mower. We haven't left anything to chance on this video, we're going to talk about the capabilities of this lawnmower, and if you see we've got a laser ...

Stan: Because camera angles lie, it's easy to make a modest slope look more aggressive than is, I've taken the time to set up a laser. We've measured the actual height of this lawn over the run going down to determine the actual angle that this lawn [inaudible 00:00:42]

Stan: Just a little bit over a 1.15 to one rise to ration run on this job site. This is about as extreme as you would ever want to attempt to mow. What you're going to find we're going to do in this video is not only show you how this Grandstand works behind us, but the fact that you can take it sideways on a hill like this. I don't recommend you doing this, but we're showing you what these lawnmowers are capable of in this video. I want you to...

Snow Wolf Paws for Using a Skid-steer to Plow Snow

Snow Wolf Paws

Today we're going to talk about one of the simplest modifications you can make to almost any skid loader that will dramatically improve its performance for snow removal.  You're also going to see a demonstration that under any circumstances, I do not want you to attempt to duplicate. I shouldn't have let it be done for this video, but I wanted to show you how dramatic this slight modification makes to its performance. It doesn't matter if you run case, New Holland, Bobcat, Caterpillar. All skid loaders suffer from one common weak point and that is their tires on the ground. They're designed for mud.  They're designed to help the machine flow, but in a snow removal application, that same design becomes its Achilles heal. Now allowing the tires to properly grip the pavement, I strapped a set wolf paws under one of my Bobcats. The change was like night and day. Look at how it just holds it in place.

Spinning Tires

You see that? You see how those tires are...

Ventrac Tractor Review - Stuck in the Mud

Ventrac Tractor Review

The project was restoring a beach; the challenge was the ground was too soft to even support the weight of a skid loader with tracks. As soon as you try to park a loader down there, it would just sink until the Ventrac came in. First thing we were going to do is just give it a test run. We were just going to see what it could do. So, we brought up the brush hog, brought out a stump grinder and we brought out a power rake. We had to remove the old dead vegetation, grind down and get rid of all the stumps and level off the ground so that it can be converted to usable yard space. We tentatively went in not knowing if the brush hog could handle what was down there. This thing was an absolute beast. It blew our minds away. I would have never said in my wildest dreams that this tool could handle brush like this. What we found out is, this brush hog not only cuts it down, but it pulverizes it. It basically leaves very little behind which is a beautiful thing because...
